Job Introduction

This is a unique opportunity for a Paralegal, Legal Assistant or graduate to join a dynamic in-house legal department, at Gleeson’s Head Office in Sheffield.  The role will report into Senior Legal Counsel and will work closely with the Head of Legal/Company Secretary and other members of the legal department, as well as many other colleagues from across the business. 

The role will cover:

  • Management of the legacy legal and land matters. This will include being the person responsible for corresponding with external lawyers and customers, when requests are received for:
    • Certificates of compliance 
    • Ground rent statements
    • Legal charge discharges
    • Leasehold consents
    • Freehold reversion sales 
  • Assisting the Company in the management of disputes, including entering negotiations with disputing parties, defending Court actions and claims made through the New Homes Ombudsman Service, Consumer Code for Housebuilders Independent Dispute Resolution Scheme or the NHBC Dispute Resolution Service.
  • Ensuring that the Group complies with its Data Protection obligations, including managing any suspected or actual data breaches, and preparing disclosures in response to data subject access requests. 
  • Providing accurate, relevant, and timely advice on property, HR, corporate and construction matters; commercial contracts, consumer and commercial disputes, data protection and other regulatory requirements. 
  • Reviewing a wide number of the Company’s commercial contracts and terms and conditions.  
  • Supporting the Group Legal Department and Company Secretarial function with document administration. 

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to develop strong relationships with a range of people within the Group.
  • An outgoing, positive thinker, who can demonstrate consistent levels of enthusiasm. 
  • Commercial drive to see the continuing growth of the Group. 
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in law. 
  • The ability to work independently and integrated into multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • The ability to prioritise work, and to work to strict timetables where required.
  • Strong IT competency. 

 

The role is intended to be full time, working 36.5 hours (5 days) hours per week, although this is negotiable dependent on individual circumstances. Previous legal experience is desirable but not an absolute requirement for the right candidate. Hybrid working is available (subject to a minimum of 3 days (or 60%) in the office). 

Working hours are:

Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 5:00pm 

Friday 8:30am – 4:00pm
